Frequently Asked Questions
What does cold process actually mean?
Cold process is a soap making method where oils and a lye solution are combined and poured into molds while they're still actively reacting, no external heat used to speed things up, unlike melt and pour soap. The bars then cure for 4 to 6 weeks before they're ready to sell, which gives cold process soap its harder bar, milder lather, and longer life.
Is your soap natural?
Our soaps are made with natural oils and butters, but our scented soaps do include fragrance oils. if you want a completely natural soap, our unscented line is a great place to find those.
Why does every bar look a little different?
Each batch is hand poured, hand cut, and hand stamped, so small variations in color, swirl, and shape are normal. No two bars come out exactly alike, that's part of buying handmade.
Do you test on animals?
No. We're actually working in the other direction, we're developing a line of soap made specifically for cats and dogs.
How long does a bar last?
It depends on how you use it. Washed directly onto skin, like a hand washing bar, with frequent use, about 1 to 2 weeks. Used directly in the shower, around a week. Used with a loofah instead of straight on skin, 2 to 4 weeks.
What's the shelf life before you even open it?
It always depends on how you treat the soap. But keeping a bar in a cool, dry place will make it last noticeably longer, whether it's opened or still sealed. Keeping it dry and on a draining dish makes it last significantly longer too.
What is mica, and is it safe?
Mica is a naturally occurring mineral that's ground into a fine powder and used to add color and shimmer to soap. Cosmetic grade mica, which is what we use, is considered safe for skin contact.
Will the color rub off in the shower?
Cosmetic mica is suspended in the soap itself rather than sitting on top of it, so it's generally colorfast. You might notice a touch of color in the lather the first use or two, that fades quickly and isn't a sign anything's wrong.
Is mica vegan and cruelty free?
Mica is a mined mineral, not an animal product, so it's vegan by nature. Sourcing practices vary supplier to supplier, so if that matters to you, ask us and we can point you to where ours comes from.
What is titanium dioxide, and why is it in the Mango Curves recipe?
Titanium dioxide is a white mineral pigment. We use it to brighten soap and make other colors more vivid and opaque, without it, colors can come out dull or a little translucent.
Is titanium dioxide safe in soap?
Yes, it's a widely used cosmetic pigment and is considered safe at the levels used in soap making.
Why do some bars have tiny white specks?
Those specks are undispersed titanium dioxide, it happens when the pigment doesn't fully blend in before the batter thickens. It's purely cosmetic, not a safety issue, but bars like that don't go up for sale, we hand those out as free samples instead.
Do you take custom fragrance requests?
Yes, we accept custom fragrance requests.
Is your soap okay for sensitive skin?
Our soap is always designed with sensitive skin in mind. Please stop use if you experience irritation or rashes.
How long does shipping take?
We ship anywhere in the US. Standard shipping typically arrives within 2 to 5 business days, a bit longer for Alaska, Hawaii, and US territories.
What if my soap arrives damaged?
If your product arrives split, broken off, or melted, we're happy to send an exchange.
What if I just don't like the soap?
No problem, we offer a refund.
